TextPad

Most computer users have used at least once in their lifetime a word processor for their writing projects. No matter if we are talking about letters, memos, reports, school assays, a word processor is indispensable. Most versions of Microsoft Windows include a simple writing application called WordPad. Even though this application includes some basic text editing functions, they are not enough for most users, even for beginners. In this case, one should install Microsoft Word, a software included in the Office package, but this also has its downsides. First of all, it's difficult to use by beginners, because of the large number of options available. Second, it takes up a lot of system resources and hard disk space. Third, it's quite expensive and can only be obtained by buying the full Office pack, not separate. In this case, you could use TextPad. It's a light text editor that has everything an average user needs for completing certain writing tasks quickly and easily.

The installation of TextPad is one simple process and completes in no time. Besides that, compared to other text editors, it takes up little system resources and little disk space. It supports most versions of Microsoft Windows, ranging from XP to Windows 7.

The interface of TextPad resembles the one of most other text editors, thus a beginner will get quickly used to it. It features a panel on the right, which lists all the loaded documents and one can easily switch between them, without reopening the same document over and over again. The right panel displays the actual document.

Programmers can add line numbers to any document, for helping them find a certain word or phrase more quickly. What makes TextPad different from other text editors is the search options, which are more numerous than the ones found in other applications. The user can also record various macros, for making repetitive actions easier to accomplish.

TextPad supports a wide range of file formats, but unfortunately does not support opening doc files.
